Matthew 12: 1-12
At that time Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the corn
and His disciples were an hungered and began to pluck the ears of corn and to
eat but when the Pharisees saw this they said unto Him behold thy disciples do
that which is not lawful to do upon the Sabbath day but He said unto them have
ye not read what David did when he was an hungered and they that were with him
how he entered into the house of God and did eat the showbread which was not lawful
for him to eat neither for them which were with him but only for the priest or
have you not read in the law how that on the Sabbath days the priest in the
temple profane the Sabbath and are blameless but I say unto you in this place
is one greater than the temple but if you had known what this meaneth I will have
mercy and not sacrifice ye would not have condemned the guiltless for the Son
of man is Lord even of the Sabbath day and when He had departed thence He went
into their synagogue and behold there was a man which had his hand withered and
they asked Him saying is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath days that they might
accuse Him and He said unto them what man shall there be among you that shall
have one sheep and if it fall into a pit on the Sabbath day will he not lay
hold of it and lift it out how much then
is a man better than a sheep wherefore is it lawful to do well on the Sabbath
days
Mark 2: 27-28
And He said unto them the Sabbath was made for man and not
man for the Sabbath therefor the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath
Luke 13: 14-16
And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation ,
because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people,
There aresix days in which men ought to work : in them therefore come and be
healed , and not on the sabbath day. The Lord then answeredhim, and said , Thou
hypocrite, dothnot each one of you on the sabbath loosehis ox or his ass from
the stall, and lead him away to watering ? And oughtnot this woman, being a
daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound , lo , these eighteen * *years, be
loosedfrom this bond on the sabbath day?
John 5: 9-18
And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed,
and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath. The Jews therefore said unto
him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry
thy bed. He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take
up thy bed, and walk. Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee,
Take up thy bed, and walk? And he that was healed wist not who it was: for
Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place. Afterward
Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made
whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. The man departed, and
told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole. And therefore did
the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these
things on the sabbath day. But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto,
and I work. Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only
had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself
equal with God.
John 7:21-26
Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and
ye all marvel. Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is
of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man. If a
man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not
be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on
the sabbath day? Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous
judgment. Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek
to kill? But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the
rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?
John 9:14
And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and
opened his eyes.
Hebrews 4: 4-9
For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this
wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. And in this place
again, If they shall enter into my rest. Seeing therefore it remaineth that
some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in
because of unbelief: Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day,
after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden
not your hearts. For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward
have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of
God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own
works, as God did from his. Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest,
lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. For the word of God is
quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the
dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a
discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any
creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened
unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
Yeshua never broke the Sabbath as His accusers said and
still say. What He did do was teach us what Sabbath means and its effect when
lived as opposed to only obeyed by the letter.
In two different places in Matthew it is recorded that
Yeshua tells His opponents to learn what it means that YHWH desires mercy and
not sacrifice this is a quote from Hosea six; it is a chapter in which we see
YHWH’s heart anguished by His love for Israel. They were offered a covenant of
love and they made it a covenant of labor and debt; for He offered that He
would sanctify them, provide for them, lead them, separate them, redeem them, and be
their good. They instead jilted Him; their obedience in the outward hid a heart
that desired His blessings for their own gain, by seeking their own provision,
and leaning on leadership of men, desiring to mix themselves with those who did
not know YHWH, they baked a bread of their own hands and would not walk until it
was fully leavened.
If they had walked in YHWH’s covenant as did the remnant
they would have been a nation of priest doing the ministry of YHWH to all men
by which their work would not be of men but YHWH making it impossible to profane
His law.
When they attempted to flatter YHWH and called Him good
master He spun on them and asked why you call me good there is only one good
The Father in heaven. Any good in us is not by us but it is by the Father in
us.
His accusers would
not believe they had broken the Sabbath if they let out their livestock to eat
and drink, but accused Yeshua for letting a sick woman loose of her bonds of
sin. They testify against themselves that what they possess is of greater value
than what YHWH has made.
His accusers would circumcise their son on the eighth day to
ensure for Him the blessings of YHWH understanding that taking away flesh was
ordained and did not violate Sabbath but where blinded to understand that to
make men whole did not violate Sabbath.
The remembrance of YHWH’s completed work and the absolute
refusal to have any labor of man accepted in that remembrance was made for men
that they could understand the redemption that YHWH had prepared. It is not a
burden by which to accuse men it is a freedom by which they can come into life.
If you can hear it believing Jesus died for your sins will
not save you if your belief is seen as a way to get Gods blessings. It is like
the sacrifices that God had ordained to teach us and to cover sin until Christ
they only have true power if one’s life is entrusted by faith to God.
If we say we have trusted Him but still live in love for our
own self(which is hate for others), to bring about our own desires, needs, and
wants the love of God is not in us. His love suffereth long, and is kind;
envieth not; vaunteth not itself, is not
puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily
provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the
truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endures all
things, love never fails.
But if you trust Him he will take the old life place it on
Himself carry it to the cross where you will die but He will carry you in Him
one with the life and Spirit of God; never to be a self again but to be one
with Him. Hate dies at the cross and love is given; lust, envy, pride, greed,
in short everything that is self-dies when He died…and by faith the life of God
lives through you.
The rest Yeshua promised is the Sabbath living and
breathing. Salvation is not a title or a credit or a one day but it is a living
breathing truth abiding in us making us to become what He is the word of YHWH
manifested in flesh…a son of our heavenly Father.
